Course & Platform FAQs

Q. How long does this course take?expandcollapse

The course has five units (typically like a module), and in each unit are varied number of video lessons which can range from 10-20 and in rare cases, slightly more that 30 minutes. Each video lesson is followed by a short Learning Check. Upon completion of all video lessons (sub-units), there is Reflection Journal and Life Application Challenge. Most learners complete the full course over several sittings — there's no fixed deadline.

Q. What is the pass mark for each Learning Check?expand collapse

80%. You may attempt each Learning Check as many times as you need — only your highest grade is recorded.

Q. Do I need to complete units in order?expand collapse

Yes. Each unit builds on the last, and later units (especially in the Water Baptism and Holy Ghost and Fire Baptism sections) assume you've followed the earlier teaching.

Q. What if I've already been baptised in water or in the Spirit — do I still need to complete those units?expand collapse

Yes, please still work through them. The course isn't only about the initial event, but about understanding why each leg matters and examining whether it's fully present in your life.

Q. I disagree with something in a lesson — can I discuss it with someone?expand collapse

This mini-course is the prerequisite for The Making of a Disciple (Volume 1), which unpacks the fourth leg, discipleship, in much greater depth.

Content & Theological FAQs

Q. Isn't repentance only for people who've committed serious sin?expandcollapse

No — the course teaches that repentance is indispensable 'for the good and the bad alike' (Unit 2E), grounded in the fact that even Jesus, who was sinless, submitted to the baptism of repentance to fulfil all righteousness.

Q. Do I have to go through a baptismal class before I can be baptised in water?expand collapse

The course notes that the early church baptised believers first and taught them afterward (Units 3D and 5A), and encourages urgency rather than long delay. That said, it's not against baptismal classes — if your local church requires one, please follow that guidance; the emphasis is simply on not delaying unnecessarily once you believe.

Q. What about people who die or come to faith without any access to water baptism — like the thief on the cross?expand collapse

Unit 3D addresses this directly: those who have no genuine opportunity for baptism are treated as an exception, not the rule. The concern raised throughout the course is about someone who has the opportunity to be baptised and refuses or delays — not about those in circumstances beyond their control.

Q. Is speaking in tongues the same thing as receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost?expand collapse

Unit 4A draws a careful distinction between receiving 'the gift of the Holy Ghost' (the Spirit Himself, singular) and 'the gifts of the Holy Ghost' (spiritual gifts, plural) — these are described as two different experiences, not identical.

Q. Is the 'baptism of fire' a literal fire?expand collapse

Unit 4B explores this question directly and concludes that the language points to the Spirit's ignition and empowering work in a believer's life — not literal, physical flames — while still describing this as a real, transformative dimension of the Spirit's coming, not merely a metaphor with no effect.

Q. If I'm saved by grace, why do I still need discipleship (teaching)?expand collapse

Unit 5A addresses this directly: grace itself is described as 'a teacher' (Titus 2:11–12) that instructs believers toward godly living, and salvation by grace without ongoing teaching is described as incomplete.

Q. Why does the course put such emphasis on Holy Communion?expand collapse

Unit 5C draws on 1 Corinthians 11:29–30 to stress that Communion should be approached with discernment of what it represents, not treated as a routine or symbolic-only act.

Q. What if I was baptised in water as a child and don't remember understanding what it meant?expand collapse

Unit 3A addresses this with encouragement to seek fuller understanding of what your baptism meant, rather than assuming it 'didn't count' or needing to repeat it.
